service learning

Our Service Learning programs aim to promote active student engagement in the community and to foster the unique culture of giving that already exists at the College.

Through the Service Learning program, students at PLC Armidale are encouraged to reach out to those in need of support – locally, nationally and internationally.

These opportunities nurture an appreciation of service as intrinsic to our Christian ethos, and to provide a practical service to others.

Social Learning Projects

Social Service at PLC Armidale includes both College-wide projects and pastoral care class projects, all of which are coordinated by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC).

These projects have included: Operation Christmas Child, Wrapped with Love, visiting aged care facilities around Armidale, selling Legacy badges, assisting at P&F Functions, supporting the Salvation Armys Red Shield Appeal, and holding a ‘Pink Day’ to raise funds for the Cancer Council.

The SRC also raises funds to support a sponsor child in Pakistan, and all year groups enjoy the opportunity to write letters to her throughout the year.

Community Service Week

Our Service Learning program culminates in Community Service Week. At this time, all students from Year 6 to 10 participate in a social service task each day. Students may participate in service activities at the College or in the wider community. Our girls have found this to be a very rewarding experience, and have enjoyed helping out and getting to know members of the wider community.

International Service Learning Program

PLC Armidale participates in a number of International Service Learning trips each year.  Our students have travelled to Fiji and Thailand to assist at St Christophers Orphanage (Fiji) and at McKean Rehabilitation Centre in Agape (Thailand).

Daily Service

Girls are provided opportunities to serve others through the daily life of the College, including welcoming visitors, conducting tours, welcoming Junior School students to school, conducting stalls, organising events, running assemblies and special service learning projects. Service Above Thy Self is synonymous with PLC Armidale.
