Co-Curricular

Alongside our rich academic program in the PLC Armidale Junior School is a strong cultural, sporting and co-curricular program. These activities enable students to learn a new skill, discover and develop talents and interests, whilst nurturing school spirit and friendships along the way.

Sport

All students in our Junior School study PDHPE and have sports lessons included in their Monday to Friday timetable. We also have regular fitness activities which involve all classes in our Junior School. Outside of the classroom, during the warmer months the girls can play tennis, touch, basketball or indoor hockey. In the cooler months many girls participate in local netball, tennis and hockey competitions. Teams, coaching and training are organised at school and the girls can enjoy the opportunity to represent their school at local, state or national level.

Throughout the year there are opportunities to compete in swimming, athletics and cross-country at the district Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) competitions and at State level, where our students compete at the Independent Primary Schools Heads Association (IPSHA) carnivals.

Sports offered include:

  • Basketball
  • Hockey
  • Indoor Hockey
  • Netball
  • Tennis (Private Coaching)
  • Touch

Music

Music is an important part of our Junior School community. All of our Junior School girls are required to participate in either the Kindergarten-Year 2 Choir, or Years 3-6 Choir.

These are timetabled into the school day once a week. We also have an optional Junior Vocal Ensemble (now called the "Treble Makers") which rehearses outside of class time, a Junior String Orchestra, Junior Wind Ensemble and Junior School Orchestra.

Many of our girls also elect to undertake private music lessons, usually provided by teachers from the New England Conservatorium of Music (NECOM). These lessons are conducted at either PLC Armidale or NECOM, before, during or after the school day by arrangement.
