All Girls Boarding and Day School Educating Women in a Christian Environment

About PLC Armidale Junior School

PLC Armidale Junior School is for girls from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6 and has it’s own beautiful area within the 17 hectares of school grounds. There are many opportunities for interaction between girls from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12.

There are combined assemblies each week, as well as sports carnivals and other special events. Specialist teachers are also shared between both parts of the school where appropriate, allowing for tremendous opportunities. This integration helps students at times of transition between Stages and particularly when they progress from Junior to Senior school.

Our Junior school is the only all-girls Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 school in Armidale – allowing the benefits of an all girls schooling to be experienced right through the school.
The class sizes in our junior school are small to ensure that each child receives the attention and support she needs.

Together we aspire to create a positive learning environment and community atmosphere where each child is known and cared for by teachers and where their individual strengths and personalities are nurtured and valued. Within a loving, Christian community, girls are supported on their journey to become life long learners.

Strengths Sport Learning Support and Extension

Strengths
We provide an all girls education and tailor programs with the knowledge of how girls learn best. Our classes are small, allowing us to develop individualised programs that cater for different learning styles and need. We have a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy. Our Peer Support Program allows every student to ‘reach for the stars’ in a caring, safe, secure environment. Our students develop confidence and are encouraged to strive for their best! The staff, students and families enjoy a strong sense of community.

We believe that children learn best when they are happy to learn.

This requires that:
  • they feel respected
  • they learn in a secure yet challenging environment
  • expectations are realistic – tasks are challenging but achievable
  • the way they learn in school complements and builds on the way they learn naturally, - the all girls environment recognizes that girls have different learning styles and needs
  • they feel confident to take risks in learning
  • they have sustained time to engage in interesting and exciting learning experiences
  • their home language and culture are valued and included in the learning experience.

Sport in the Junior School
Participation in Saturday sport is not compulsory, however all students have PDHPE and sport lessons included on their Monday to Friday timetable. In the junior school we have morning fitness activities that involve all the classes. During the warmer months the girls can play touch football or indoor hockey and, in the cooler months many girls participate in the local netball and hockey competitions. Teams, coaching and training are organised at school and the girls enjoy the opportunity to represent their school.

Throughout the year there are opportunities to compete in swimming, athletics and cross-country at the district PSSA (Primary Schools Sports Association) competitions and, at state level, where our students compete in the IPSHA (Independent Primary Schools Heads Association) Carnivals.

Learning Support and Extension
PLC Armidale acknowledges the individuality of its students and provision is made to extend and support their academic, social, physical and spiritual growth. Extension activities are offered to students with gifts and talents in specific areas and support is available for students at each stage of their learning.

Classes enjoy Think Tank activities and individuals are selected for Tournament Of Minds teams and writing groups. Challenge and extension activities are provided in the key learning areas. There are opportunities for individuals and groups to work in their classes with our Director of Student Learning, Extension and Support.
