international students

International students flourish at PLC Armidale. We have a long tradition of caring for and educating girls from many countries. Our College provides a safe and caring environment which fosters academic excellence and community engagement. Students from overseas are offered additional pastoral care and academic support which enables them to strive for independence and resilience.

Overseas students are students who are not Australian resident, some with residency may not speak English well. If an overseas student is studying overseas in non-English speaking countries in a school where English is not the language of learning, to be eligible to apply for enrolment at PLC Armidale, the student must demonstrate competency on the Australian Education Assessment Services (AEAS) test including the written section as well as in an interview. The College will determine the student’s English level suitability for enrolment to the College.

Students may have their enrolment made conditional on achieving a satisfactory English level in a given time period.

Once enrolled, overseas students undertake the mainstream program of study. Some overseas students may be required to undertake an ESL (English as a Second Language) elective in order to continue the development of their English language skills.

Applying to Study

Some parents prefer to use an agent who speaks their own language and is familiar with the required procedures. Agents may charge a fee for additional services. PLC Armidale accepts applications from all agents, but may not pay them a commission, unless they are official agents of the College. Non-official Agents are welcome to discuss future opportunities with the College.

English as a Second Language

Many overseas students find English a challenge when they first begin in Australia. To support our overseas students, an intensive course of study in English as a Second Language (ESL) is provided on-campus. Girls gather with a small group of other students for specialist tuition along with spending time in the classroom, where relationships can be forged with other students, offering the best of both worlds as they settle into their new environment.
